Cindy Mclean is a Canadian artist living in a rural area of Southern Japan. Born and raised in Quebec, Canada she began in the art world as an interior designer. After a 10-year career in interior design and extensive world travel she moved to Kagoshima Japan in 1988.

A self taught artist, she began painting in watercolour in early 2002, branching out to oil a few years later. Having joined several local art groups and having several successes in regional art contests, Cindy received the MBC prize in the annual Aira regional art competition.

Following this early success, she went on to receive significant awards in almost all of the dozens of art competitions she entered.Cindy has impressed judges with her unique vision turning scenes of everyday life in rural Japan into fantasy worlds through her choice of striking colours and their harmonies  and contrasts.

Her first solo exhibition in November 2008 in the stately grounds of her local Shinto Shrine drew many admirers of her imaginative treatment of everyday subjects in her immediate environment  such as deserted  houses, ruined tiled roofs, flowers and even washing hanging on the line. Enabling viewers of her work to see the everyday world as a world of possibility.
